VP of Customer & Ecosystems Engineering
PlanetScale powers some of the largest consumer apps and AAA games in the world with our breakthrough database platform. As the VP of Customer & Ecosystems Engineering, you will lead the teams delivering enterprise support to our most strategic customers, ensuring they achieve massive scale, reliability, and performance. You’ll also drive our ecosystem strategy—building; tools that our customers use, technology alliances with the major clouds, and integrations that expand the reach and adoptability of PlanetScale.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead Enterprise Customer Engineering: Manage and grow the Customer Engineering teams responsible for world-class technical support. This involves guiding engineers, consultants, and solution architects who deliver rapid troubleshooting, proactive optimization, and on-site/virtual assistance to our largest enterprise customers. You will get to be part of joint roadmap development with customers and take part in their launches.
- Scale Support Operations: Design and refine support processes, escalation pathways, and SLAs that meet the demands of high-traffic consumer services. Our culture of support centers around all our staff being technical and becoming an integrated part of our customer’s operations.
- Drive Ecosystem Partnerships: Identify and execute on technology integrations, partner programs, and community initiatives that expand PlanetScale’s ecosystem. We drive a massive amount of consumption with the major clouds and making sure we integrate seamlessly within their ecosystems is crucial.
- Technical Leadership: Serve as a senior technical voice for the company, representing PlanetScale in industry forums, partner summits, and major customer presentations. Help set the roadmap to match and exceed customer expectations for performance and availability.
- Team Building & Mentorship: Attract, hire, and develop top-tier technical talent, fostering a learning culture and a shared mission to unlock the full potential of PlanetScale for our customers.
What We’re Looking For:
- Deep Technical Background: 10+ years in software engineering, systems architecture, or a related field, ideally with database or large-scale infrastructure expertise. You will be working with some of the best engineers in our space and it is important you can lead in a tech-first manner.
- Customer-Focused Mindset: Proven ability to build and manage teams that deliver enterprise-grade support for business-critical applications.
- Leadership & Collaboration: Skilled at rallying cross-functional teams, inspiring action, and maintaining alignment on high-impact initiatives.
- Ecosystem Builder: Comfortable navigating open-source communities, partner ecosystems, and large enterprise alliances to drive growth and adoption. If this is something you have not done before this will be the best place to learn.
- Excellent Communication skills: Capable of translating complex technical concepts into clear value for executives, engineers, and developers.

Base salary range: 200k - 350k USD
